The church is said to be the pillar and support of truth (1 Timothy 3:15). Most understand this to mean that when the local church gathers, it provides support to its people. Though this is true, there is a broader application we cannot afford to miss. The idea of upholding the truth is especially valuable when it extends beyond our weekly meetings. Christians are exhorted to portray the truth by the way they conduct their life with integrity and honor. The Bible goes so far to tell Christians that they should be willing to commend their manner of life to everyone’s conscience in sight of God (2 Corinthians 4:2). The church should be seen more than a place of protecting the truth. God’s design is for His people to be like pillars of truth moving out into places, like the workplace, where circumstances are volatile, but where God’s stability is seen through His people. (PMC) Consider: "And He (Lord) will be the stability of your times, a wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is his treasure" (Isaiah 33:6).
